Terms of Service

Last updated: September 19, 2026

These Terms govern your access to and use of inverseStory. Please read them before creating a workspace or uploading test data.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of inverseStory — the test analytics, dashboards, reporting, and AI Insights platform (the "Service") — operated by inverseStory ("inverseStory", "we", "us", "our"). "You" or "Customer" means the organization and individuals using the Service under an inverseStory account.

By creating an account, accepting an invitation to a workspace, or otherwise accessing the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you are accepting on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity, in which case "you" refers to that entity.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not create an account or use the Service.

2. Definitions

  • "Organization" or "Tenant" — the workspace created at signup that owns projects, users, and a subscription.
  • "Account" — a named user within an Organization, with an Organization role (Owner, Admin, or User) and, optionally, per-project roles (Project Admin, Analyst, Viewer).
  • "Customer Data" or "Test Data" — the test execution results, suites, test cases, run metadata, logs, stack traces, screenshots, and other content that you or your tools upload to, or generate within, the Service.
  • "AI Insights" — optional automated analysis features that process Customer Data to surface patterns, summaries, root-cause suggestions, or other derived output.
  • "Subscription" — the paid or trial plan associated with your Organization, which determines usage limits and available features.

3. Accounts and Registration

You must provide accurate registration information, including a valid work email, and keep it up to date. You are responsible for safeguarding your password and for all activity under your account.

Organization Owners and Admins can invite additional Accounts, assign Organization and project roles, and remove Accounts. inverseStory is not responsible for disputes between an Organization and its own users over access or role assignment — that is governed by the access controls your Owners and Admins configure.

You must notify us promptly at support@inversestory.dev if you become aware of unauthorized use of an account.

4. Customer Data

As between you and inverseStory, you own your Customer Data. You grant inverseStory a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, copy, transmit, display, and process Customer Data solely to provide, secure, support, and improve the Service.

You are solely responsible for the content of what you upload. Test logs, screenshots, and stack traces can incidentally capture personal data, credentials, or other sensitive information present in the systems under test. You represent that you have the right to upload Customer Data and that doing so does not violate any law or a third party's rights. Do not upload data you are not authorized to share, and avoid including secrets (API keys, passwords, tokens) in uploaded artifacts where avoidable.

On enterprise plans, an Organization may choose to store its Customer Data in a dedicated database, a dedicated cluster, or a database the Organization itself owns and operates ("External" storage). Where you supply your own database credentials, we store them encrypted and use them only to connect to that database on your behalf.

5. AI Insights

AI Insights is an optional feature, gated by your Subscription plan and by an on/off control your Organization Owner can set. When enabled, it processes Customer Data through automated analysis to generate suggestions and summaries.

AI-generated output may be incomplete or inaccurate. It is provided to assist investigation, not as a substitute for engineering judgment, and you should verify AI-generated conclusions before relying on them.

We do not use your Customer Data to train general-purpose AI models made available to other customers, and we do not sell Customer Data. See our Privacy Policy for how AI Insights processing is described from a data-protection standpoint.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to store or transmit unlawful content, malware, or material that infringes a third party's rights.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach its security or authentication measures, except through a coordinated disclosure or engagement we've explicitly authorized in writing.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except to the extent applicable law prohibits this restriction.
  • Resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties as a bureau or service without our written consent.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service, or attempt to access another Organization's data without authorization.
  • Use automated means to exceed reasonable usage of the Service in a way that degrades it for other customers.

We may suspend access to protect the Service or other customers if we reasonably believe these rules are being violated, and will make reasonable efforts to notify you first except where immediate action is required.

7. Subscriptions, Trials, and Fees

New Organizations may start on a free trial. Trial length and any extension are shown in-product and may change; at the end of a trial, continued use of paid features requires an active paid Subscription.

When a trial or a paid period ends without a new Subscription, your Organization moves to our Free plan rather than being closed or frozen. Your Customer Data is not deleted and remains available; the Free plan carries smaller usage allowances and does not include the paid features. We email the Organization's owner before a trial ends and again when it has.

Paid plans are billed monthly or yearly in advance, in the currency shown at checkout, and renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. Fees are exclusive of applicable taxes, which you are responsible for unless we are required by law to collect them.

Every successful payment produces a numbered document in your Billing history, showing the amount, the period it covers and the billing details you have given us. Until inverseStory is incorporated and registered for GST, that document is a payment receipt rather than a GST tax invoice, and it says so on its face; no GST is charged or collected in the meantime. Keep your billing details up to date if you need them to appear on it.

Where payments are processed by a third-party payment processor (for example Stripe, Razorpay, or Paddle), that processor's terms also apply to the payment transaction. We store only limited payment method metadata needed for account management (such as card brand and last four digits) — we do not store full card numbers.

If a payment fails or an invoice goes unpaid, we may downgrade or suspend paid features after giving you notice first, so you always have a fair chance to sort it out before losing access. In practice that notice is a grace period of seven days from the end of your paid period, during which your Organization keeps full access while you renew. After it, paid features move to read-only until payment succeeds.

Refunds

Once a payment has gone through successfully, it's final. We don't offer refunds for a change of mind, under-use of the plan, or cancelling partway through a billing period — keeping this simple and consistent is part of how we keep pricing fair for every customer on the same plan.

The one thing we will always make right is our own mistake: if a payment is successfully captured but your subscription doesn't activate, or an upgrade you paid for isn't reflected in your account, that's on us to fix. Write to us at support@inversestory.dev with your payment reference, and we will either bring your account up to date immediately — backdated to when you paid — or refund that specific charge if we can't, whichever gets you back to work sooner.

In most other situations, there's a better option than a refund. If you need more time to decide, ask us about extending your trial. If a plan no longer fits your team, you can downgrade or cancel from Billing at any time — effective at the end of your current period, with nothing owed and no penalty. And if an invoice ever looks wrong, tell us directly: a person looks into billing questions here, not a ticket queue.

We may change plan pricing or usage limits for future billing periods; we will give you reasonable advance notice before a change takes effect on your Subscription.

8. Intellectual Property

inverseStory and its licensors own all right, title, and interest in the Service, including its software, design, and branding, excluding your Customer Data. Nothing in these Terms transfers any such rights to you beyond the limited right to use the Service as permitted here.

You may provide feedback or suggestions about the Service. You grant us the right to use that feedback without restriction or obligation to you.

9. Confidentiality

Each party may receive non-public information from the other ("Confidential Information"), which includes Customer Data on your side and non-public product, security, and pricing information on ours. Each party agrees to use the other's Confidential Information only to perform under these Terms, and to protect it with the same degree of care it uses for its own confidential information, but no less than reasonable care.

10. Term, Suspension, and Termination

These Terms apply for as long as you maintain an account or Organization on the Service. You may cancel a paid Subscription at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, so you keep the access you have already paid for until that date, and nothing further is charged. You may reverse a scheduled cancellation at any point before it takes effect. If your period has already lapsed when you cancel, the cancellation takes effect immediately, because there is no remaining paid time to honour.

After a cancellation takes effect, your Organization moves to our Free plan rather than being deleted: your Customer Data remains available, and you can subscribe again at any time.

We may suspend or terminate your access for material breach of these Terms (including the Acceptable Use section), non-payment, or if required to comply with law, in each case with notice where reasonably possible.

On termination, your right to access the Service ends. We will make Customer Data available for export for a reasonable period after termination on request, after which it may be deleted from our systems and backups in the ordinary course, subject to the retention practices in our Privacy Policy.

11. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. inverseStory is an actively evolving product; features, including AI Insights, may change, be added, or be removed, and we do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated output will be accurate.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER PARTY WILL BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, OR DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

EACH PARTY'S TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE FEES PAID OR PAYABLE BY YOU TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. This limitation does not apply to a party's confidentiality breaches, indemnification obligations, or liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold inverseStory harmless from third-party claims arising from your Customer Data or your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, including the Acceptable Use section.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The courts located in Bengaluru, India will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, and each party consents to that jurisdiction.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. If we make a material change, we will provide reasonable notice, such as an in-product notice or an email to Organization Owners, before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

16. General

  • Assignment — you may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all our assets.
  • Severability — if any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
  • Entire agreement — these Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any order form or plan terms shown at purchase, are the entire agreement between you and inverseStory regarding the Service.
  • Force majeure — neither party is liable for delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control.
